The Perceiving Systems Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Graphics Technical Developer with experience in environment mapping, game development and augmented/virtual reality.
We are creating the world’s most realistic human and animal avatars for use in research, film & virtual reality. Using unique 3D & 4D capture facilities, machine learning, vision and advanced graphics, we are capturing and modeling every nuance of how humans and animals look, move and interact with the world around them. We develop algorithms to estimate shape, motion and texture from images, videos, scans and RGB-D sequences. Our approaches define the current state of the art and we are pushing to bring special effects to life in everyday environments.
You will work closely with the team of scientists to support graphics and vision research to create both scientific papers and distributable software. You will also be expected to work independently to establish our AR/VR infrastructure and develop tools to bring avatars to life in realistic virtual environments in AR/VR and game engines.
What we offer
The MPI for Intelligent Systems is one of the world's leading research institutions for machine learning, computer vision and robotics, studying the concepts of intelligence and autonomous behavior in artificial systems at different length scales. You will be part of a young team of international scientists and administrative staff. Salaries will be based on previous work experience according to TVöD guidelines. This is a full-time position. An initial contract will be offered for two years.
- Good understanding of computer graphics, texturing, rendering and environment mapping
- Experience with animation and scripting in a 3D animation program, e.g. Unity/Blender/Maya (+2 years)
- Experience with Python or C/C++
- Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting skills
- Good written/spoken English are required
Experience with any of the following would be a plus:
- Developing AR/VR apps (Unity VR, HoloLens, AR-kit, ARCore etc.)
- Python scripting for Maya/Blender or Mono scripting for Unity
