The Max Planck Research Group for Rationality Enhancement (head: Dr. Falk Lieder) at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen is looking for student research assistants (m/f/d) to support ongoing research projects related to mechanisms of metacognitive learning, goal setting, attention control, cognitive tutors, and cognitive prostheses.
The positions focus on programming and/or behavioral experiments. Relevant topics of interest and/or experience include reinforcement learning, decision science, cognitive growth, goal setting, metacognitive learning, attention control, working memory, cognitive training, and cognitive heuristics and biases.
The positions include a broad spectrum of tasks, such as the design, application and refinement of computational cognitive models, the design and implementation of web-based experiments, data management and pre-processing, and scientific writing. On this account, they offer excellent learning opportunities across all stages of the model-based development of computational tools for enhancing effectiveness, self-improvement, and cognitive growth.
- For positions focusing on behavioral experiments, applicants should have a strong background in psychology, cognitive science, education, social sciences, communication sciences, or similar fields, and solid prior experience with designing, running and analyzing behavioral experiments with human participants. Affinity for social media and scientific communication would be an additional plus.
